Student and professor collaborate on essay, CD

An Elon professor and student teamed up recently to present a paper and CD at a national conference.

Tom Arcaro, professor of sociology, and junior Chrissy Kilgariff presented a paper titled “Humanistic Sociology and Darwin: An Argument for a Sociobiological Approach,” at the annual meeting of the Association for Humanist Sociology Oct. 12 in Madison, Wisc. They were also asked to submit the article for inclusion in the association’s journal, Humanity & Society.

In the paper, Arcaro and Kilgariff assert that mainstream sociological theory and humanist theory ignores the sociobiological approach to the study of sociology.

The CD contained essays written by Arcaro, including the paper written with Kilgariff, titled “A Collection of Essays on Being Human.” Kilgariff handled most of the production work associated with the CD.
