Ethnobotanist to speak November 11

Paul Cox will speak to a global pod on Monday, Nov. 11, at 9:20 a.m., in Whitley Auditorium. Anyone from the Elon community is invited to attend.

An ethnobotanist, Cox is currently director of the National Tropical Botanical Garden, which is based in Hawaii.

Cox was a convocation speaker in the fall of 1998 at Elon, and also delivered a Voices of Discovery lecture that same semester. He has worked extensively in Samoa trying to save the Samoan rainforest, where he discovered a plant that is now used in the treatment of breast cancer. His interest in Samoa goes beyond botany and his book “Nafanua” is about his experiences in Samoa.
