Elon to host Duke management program, Jan. 21, 28

Elon will host a course as part of Duke University’s Certificate in Nonprofit Management Program. The two-day course, titled “Financial Fundamentals,” will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Jan. 21 and Jan. 28 in the Isabella Cannon Room on campus. A description of the course follows:

“Managing a nonprofit requires an astonishing array of skills: program design, personnel management, board and community relations. Financial management is one training area that is often neglected, and much in demand. This class will address the key financial components of managing a nonprofit organization: financial and legal responsibilities of Board and staff; internal control and fraud prevention; basic accounting principles; cash management; and financial statement analysis. Mig Murphy Sistrom, a certified public accountant with over 10 years of experience as advisor, finance director, outside auditor, teacher, volunteer, and board, is a financial consultant providing accounting, tax, training, and planning services exclusively in the nonprofit sector. migsistrom@earthlink.net”

The Certificate Program is a low-cost, high impact program open to anyone who volunteers or works with nonprofit and religious organizations, schools, service organizations, foundations and government agencies.

The course costs $142, and there is a $4 materials fee due at the start of the course. For more information and to register for the course, go to the Web site below:
