The service organization, which is the collegiate branch of the Kiwanis International family, was chartered at Elon seven years ago.
Elon University’s campus offers a myriad of opportunities to get involved in service. Among these opportunities is Circle K (CKI), which was chartered on Elon’s campus in 2015 with the goal of developing leaders by offering unique service, leadership, and fellowship opportunities.
Elon’s chapter of Circle K has more than 20 active members who attend meetings and events. The club aims to be flexible since all its members are a part of other organizations around campus. Members can attend biweekly meetings on- and off-campus events throughout the year. Past events have included making dog toys and blankets, watching movies, and hearing from Kiwanis members about their experiences and careers.
Kaitlin Cirillo ‘24 joined Circle K during her first semester at Elon, and now serves as president of the organization.
“My experience in the club has been amazing. I joined because I was really involved in Key Club throughout high school, and that was where I found my second family,” she said. “In college, I have served as an officer the last two years because I had such great experiences, even virtually during COVID!”
CKI is the world’s largest student-led service organization with over 13,000 members. They work in collaboration with the local Burlington Kiwanis Club to accomplish projects in the community and throughout the world. The Elon chapter was recently featured in The Carolinian, the official publication of the Carolinas CKI.
“Our members have the opportunity to choose what we do at meetings,” said Cirillo. “We have service and social aspects to all our meetings, so if members have a specific thing they are really passionate about, we can include that in our plans.”
