With only a few weeks remaining in the fall semester, planning for 2023 is already underway at Campus Recreation and Wellness.

It’s a good time to highlight the many opportunities to engage with Campus Recreation and Wellness facilities, programs and services, both in work with students and for personal well-being. Take time to get to know the team at Campus Recreation and Wellness who are here to help faculty, students and staff to get involved.

Facilities

All Phoenix Card holders are encouraged to take advantage of access to recreation and fitness facilities in the Koury Athletic Center (including Stewart Fitness Center, Beck Pool, Jordan Gym, racquetball/squash courts, studios, and locker rooms), South Gym (courts for a variety of sports, including soccer and pickleball), and the gymnasium at the PARC (basketball and volleyball) during open hours of operation.

Current students, faculty, and staff also have access to the PARC fitness center daily from 6:00am-midnight. Additional opportunities for engagement are available at the outdoor fitness court on the south end of the Innovation Quad on Haggard Ave., across the street from the East Neighborhood.

Students can contact Jenny Larson at jlarson4@elon.edu for more information about reserving or using facilities, or to schedule a facility tour.

Campus Recreation and Wellness offers 25-30 weekly group exercise classes during the academic year that are free for students, faculty, and staff in addition to the classes offered for employees by colleagues in Faculty/Staff Wellness. Private group exercise classes are available upon request for $20/hour. Students, faculty and staff can utilize the certified personal trainers available to assist them in achieving their fitness goals – fees vary based on affiliation and number of sessions purchased. Additional employment opportunities are available through Be Well: a winter term exercise adherence program for students in partnership with Counseling Services. Applications are available now.

In addition to exercise classes, intramural sports are offered throughout the year that are open to students, faculty, and staff including basketball, soccer, and pickleball. Campus Recreation and Wellness offers 27 club sports primarily for students, however there are opportunities for faculty and staff to support these student organizations.

Those interested should contact Zach Gentz at zgentz@elon.edu to get involved with intramural or club sports, and Jenny Larson at jlarson4@elon.edu to get connected with informal faculty/staff sport groups.

The Elon Challenge program works with students to customize an experience to help groups meet their team development goals, either at high- and low-ropes challenge course or another location of your preference. Elon Outdoors program includes trips that are primarily for students, as well as a weekly community gathering, S’mores with Outdoors, every Wednesday at 9:00pm and private s’mores events for $20/hour. Students, faculty and staff can also rent equipment and take advantage of other resources to plan specific adventures.

Evan Small, current ELOA assistant director, will be moving to a full-time faculty role in the spring and can be contacted at esmall@elon.edu for any inquiries the rest of this fall, and Jenny Larson at jlarson4@elon.edu for anything this winter/spring term.
