Communications Web site wins award

Elon’s School of Communications Web site has been honored with a “Best of the Festival” award in the faculty interactive media competition of the Broadcast Education Association. Web sites entered by the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Central Michigan tied for second place.

The award will be presented at the BEA’s International Festival of Film,
Video and Media Arts in Las Vegas April 4-7. The event will be held in
conjunction with the Broadcast Education Association’s 48th Annual
Convention & Exhibition and The National Association of Broadcasters 80th Annual Convention & Expo. Thousands of attendees will converge to share ideas, present research, network with academics and professionals, meet with publishers and attend the latest equipment/technology demonstrations.

Paul Parsons, dean of the School of Communications, wrote the content and was the originator of the scheme of organization for the winning Web site. Janna Quitney Anderson, the school’s director of Internet projects,
collaborated on the design concept and developed the site’s pages. Jerome Sturm, University Relations photographer, took many of the photos for the site. Jason McMerty of Elon Television Services assembled a video introduction for the site. Faculty member Ray Johnson was instrumental in finding and formatting streaming video content. School of Communications students contributed a great deal of the creative content of the site, sharing their video clips and writing.
