Student, alum earn national recreation awards

A current Elon student, Leslie Crowe, and 2001 graduate Cara Wise McFadden have been honored by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). Details...

Crowe received one of four William N. Wasson Student Leadership and Academic Awards, which recognizes outstanding students who are active participants, volunteers and employees in collegiate recreational sports departments. The award is named after NIRSA’s founder.

Crowe completed her degree requirements in December and currently serves as an intern in both Campus Recreation and Leadership and Organization Development on campus. For two years, she served as team leader for Elon’s 11 club sports, overseeing day-to-day operations. Last fall, she served as team leader for Outdoors, supervising three team members as they planned and led student outdoor adventure experiences.

Crowe serves the Leadership and Organization Development Office, coordinating activities on the Elon Challenge course. She trained course facilitators and led student groups through course activities. She has been a member of the Elon Dance team and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.

McFadden earned a NIRSA Foundation Scholarship for 2003. She currently works as a graduate assistant in campus recreation at Central Michigan University. During her undergraduate years at Elon, she served as team leader for special programs in Campus Recreation.

At Central Michigan, McFadden serves as the NIRSA student representative for Region III, which includes Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and the province of Quebec.
