Elon student Jennifer Holt and Joel Karty, assistant professor of chemistry, had an article published in the March 5 edition of the Journal of the American Chemical Society.
Titled “Origin of the Acidity Enhancement of Formic Acid over Methanol: Resonance versus Inductive Effects,” the article is the result of research conducted by Holt and Karty. Their work focuses on the disagreement surrounding the origin of the 37 kcal/mol enhanced gas phases acidity of formic acid over methanol.
