Anne Bolin, professor of anthropology, had a book review published in the December 2002 edition of American Anthropologist: Journal of the American Anthropological Association.
Bolin reviewed “Bike Lust: Harleys, Women and American Society,” by Barbara Joans, a book published in 2001 by the University of Wisconsin Press. In the book, Joans details her experience of becoming a motorcycle rider, and her education about the changing culture of the biking community.
“Joans’ lens is an historical one situating women and emphasizing change in Harley culture,” Bolin writes. “The transformation from the early days of outlaw biking clubs of “The Wild One” and Hell’s Angels’ fame to the HOG (Harley Owner’s Group) chapters of today is documented.”
