The Elon University football team spent spring break this year in idyllic Costa Rica as a part of the university’s continued commitment to providing students opportunities for global experiences during their time at Elon.
Football team members Antonio White, Bryant Ward, Chase Speicher, CJ Ford and Dylan Tucker documented their experiences and those of the teammates during the five-day excursion in a digital diary available on the Elon Phoenix website.
The team worked with a local American football team based in Liberia, Costa Rica, to help with their basic skills and schemes. The student-athletes tubed down a local river, hiked the national Rincón De La Vieja park and helped clean the shoreline of Playa Flamingo beach, among the many activities during the five days.
“The experience so far in Costa Rica has been nothing short of amazing. We have experienced so many new things that we would have never experienced in the United States,” Ward said in his recount of day two of the trip.
Ford said of the cleanup efforts in his day four entry, “I noticed that it wasn’t just a chore or a task that needed to be completed, but my teammates and I truly enjoyed doing this service and we had a good time doing so throughout the morning.”
