In honor of Pride Month, BestColleges, in partnership with Campus Pride, identified each U.S. state’s most LGBTQ-friendly college.
Elon University was named the most LGBTQ-friendly college in North Carolina by BestColleges, in partnership with Campus Pride. Elon received a five-star ranking and was recognized for being the state’s most accommodating institution for LGBTQIA students and offering a wide variety of resources.
In honor of Pride Month, BestColleges mapped out each state’s most LGBTQ-friendly college for students. The evaluation examined National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) data and Campus Prides’ Index Score. The star-ranking system blended rates from BestColleges rankings of academic quality and college affordability, in conjunction with Campus Pride’s index score that examines institutions’ LGBTQ-friendly policy, institutional commitment, academic Life, housing, counseling and other factors.
“To receive this recognition is important during Pride Month to demonstrate the presence of LGBTQIA communities at our university. As anti-LGBTQ bills sweep the country, the GLC remains committed to providing support to LGBTQIA students and continuing to advance resources and policies that institutionalize that support,” Luis Garay, director of the Gender and LGBTQIA Center (GLC), said. “This recognition does not mean we have arrived at inclusive excellence for LGBTQIA students – we have more to do and we will do so with the support of our campus partners.”
