If you’re looking to relieve the stress of school while having fun with classmates, for a big group of Elon Law students and a few of their friends, there may have been no better way this fall than booting a rubber ball around a baseball diamond.
It’s a bonus when you finish on top of the divisional standings against 10 other teams in a citywide kickball league.
Calling themselves “Attractive Nuisances” and wearing Elon Law apparel, the team competed nearly every week from mid-August through early October at Carolyn Allen Park in northwest Greensboro. “Attractive Nuisances” concluded the regular season best in the Monday Beginner division standings before tying for third in league playoffs.
Students from Elon Law first fielded a kickball team last spring after previously taking part in a city softball league. Kickball seemed easier for the players, said fall season team manager Gordon Cathcart L’23, and “it isn’t stressful.”
“It’s also easier to make sure everybody on the team gets to play every game,” he said. “And by joining a team, either softball or kickball, you get to know classmates you otherwise don’t get a chance to see outside of class.”

With Cathcart now making plans for graduation in December and moving to Charlotte to practice law, leadership of the Elon Law kickball team has transitioned to Ryan Denver L’24 and Sara Griffin L’24.
“Given how much enthusiasm, success, and fun we had in the past two seasons,” Cathcart said, “we fully expect to see more Elon Law kickball in the future.
