Physics and Engineering departments celebrate end-of-semester with baking, sculpting.
To celebrate the end of the semester, the Departments of Physics and Engineering jointly hosted an Innovation Quad Bake-Off and social gathering.
The baking competition was open to all students, staff and faculty in the departments and participants were encouraged to vote for their favorite baked goods from the 10 participants. Three participants tied for third place: James Povio ’27, a first-year engineering student who made fruit pies with pi cut into the crust; Assistant Professor of Physics Yashashree Jadhav made tres leches cake with a rainbow gradient icing; and Associate Professor of Physics Kyle Altmann created a brownie base with whipped cream and white chocolate topping complemented by a raspberry drizzle. In second place was a rich chocolate cake with raspberry filling from Instructor in Physics Tim Martin. And in first place was a two-tier chocolate geode cake from Lecturer in Physics Jeremy Hohertz.
This event also featured a display of student projects from the EGR 2060 Engineering Mechanics – Statics course. Students made mobiles with hanging elements that represented their path and purpose in pursuing an engineering major.
