With clearance from the American Bar Association and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Elon Law is set to enroll its first students to an in-person, part-time Juris Doctor program at Elon University's new campus in the city's South End neighborhood.
Elon University School of Law will soon begin offering admission to applicants to a part-time Juris Doctor program designed for working professionals in Charlotte.
The American Bar Association and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges have approved applications to begin the Elon Law Flex Program and Elon University’s Charlotte campus, respectively.
The ABA shared its part-time program decision with Elon University in December. SACSCOC formally communicated its Charlotte campus approval to university leaders on Jan. 30, 2024.
Designed to be completed over four years, the Elon Law Flex Program in Charlotte’s South End neighborhood will use the same philosophy that has earned Elon Law’s full-time, 2.5-year program in Greensboro national recognition for its approach to practical training.
The School of Law expects to enroll an initial cohort of at least 35 students with classes set to begin in August. Though plans for the program were announced in September, ABA and SACSCOC approval gives Elon Law official permission to extend offers of admission.
Students in the Flex Program will have the opportunity to take many of the same elective courses as those offered in Elon Law’s full-time Greensboro program, plus others tailored to the Charlotte market such as banking law, health law, and sports and entertainment law.
“Elon Law’s presence in Charlotte allows us to deepen our relationship with a legal community that regularly welcomes our student residents, hosts our summer student interns, and hires our graduates,” said Elon Law Dean Zak Kramer. “About 10 percent of all Elon Law alumni live and work in the Charlotte region, and I’m excited to see the wonderful ways our law school will continue to make a difference in the lives of so many people.”
The Elon Law Flex Program will be taught at Elon University’s campus in Charlotte at 330 W. Tremont Avenue just minutes from the Uptown central business district and a short walk from the LYNX Blue Line light rail system.
