The magazine has recognized alumni associations that are making an impact for underrepresented alumni.
Insight Into Diversity magazine, the largest and oldest diversity and inclusion publication in higher education, has presented the Elon University Office of Alumni Engagement with its 2024 Alumni Association Inclusive Excellence Award.
The award honors the programs, culture and initiatives of alumni associations that encourage and support diversity, inclusion and a sense of belonging for all alumni, regardless of racial or ethnic background, sexual or gender identity, religion, socio-economic status, worldview and more. Elon will be featured along with 31 other recipients in the June 2024 issue of Insight Into Diversity magazine.
“Elon University demonstrates its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion throughout the entire student life-cycle, from the first year through alumni status, evidenced through a range of programs, initiatives, and networks designed to support and uplift individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities. By integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into every aspect of university life, Elon University strives to cultivate a community where all members are valued, respected, and empowered to thrive,” says La’ Tonya Wiley, assistant director of alumni engagement for affinity networks.
Insight Into Diversity magazine selected Elon because the concept of inclusive excellence serves as Elon’s framework for diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. This shared responsibility extends beyond the campus boundaries to include alumni, reflecting a commitment to creating and sustaining an inclusive community wherever members of the Elon community may be located.
“We know that alumni associations are not always recognized for their dedication to diversity, inclusion and belonging,” says Lenore Pearlstein, owner and publisher of Insight Into Diversity magazine. “We are proud to honor these college and university alumni associations as role models for other institutions of higher education.”
