Elon resumes normal operations Friday

As the risk for flash flooding decreases, the university returns to normal operations in the morning of Aug. 9.

After closing Thursday due to inclement weather caused by Tropical Storm Debby, Elon University resumes normal operations on Friday, August 9. Although additional rain is expected into the area this evening, the remaining bands of rain affecting our area began to diminish and move toward the east overnight. As this occurs, the risk for flash flooding should also decrease by the morning.

Note that many rivers across central North Carolina won’t crest until Friday or Saturday, so river flooding will continue to be an ongoing hazard through the weekend. Detailed information from the National Weather Service storm briefing is available here.

The Elon community is fortunate that the impact on campus has been minimal. Facilities Management has been clearing the campus of any storm debris and will continue to do so in the coming days. Although rain is possible on Friday, it is not projected to occur at the level experienced today and should not have a significant impact on campus operations.
