Brad Moore, associate director of planning, design and construction, has been named one of 100 Emerging Professionals who have received scholarships to attend the American Institute of Architects national convention, scheduled for April 30 - May 2 in San Francisco.

Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree Hanna Holborn Gray, who served as president of the University Chicago and as provost and acting president at Yale University, will give the James P. Elder Lecture at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 16 in Whitley Auditorium. Gray's talk is titled "Education and Utopia."
Music Theatre alumna Connie Renda competes in Prairie Home Companion contest

Connie Renda, a 2003 music theatre alumna, was among six finalists in the "Great American Duet Sing-Off" competition sponsored by Prairie Home Companion, a nationally syndicated public radio program. Renda and her duet partner Elizabeth Brown were featured in a live broadcast April 11.
2007 alumna Chelsea Detrick loses battle with cancer

Chelsea Detrick, a 2007 Elon graduate, died April 9 after a long battle with an aggressive form of cancer. She had been living in the Seattle, Wash., area and was being cared for by her father, Glenn Detrick, who has taught classes in Elon's Love School of Business.
Elon, Bennett College presidents discuss higher education at Fireside Chat series

President Leo M. Lambert and Bennett College for Women President Julianne Malveaux teamed up for an engaging discussion of issues facing higher education. The event, held April 8 in the Koury Business Center, inaugurated a Fireside Chat series sponsored by the presidents’ offices along with African/African-American studies, Phi Beta Kappa faculty and staff, and women’s and gender studies.

Anderson Cooper, CNN news anchor and host of “Anderson Cooper 360°” will appear at Elon University on April 7, 2009, conducting a question-and-answer discussion with students at 2 p.m. and delivering a special lecture at 4 p.m. in Koury Center’s Alumni Gym. Tickets for the lecture are sold out, however the Box Office is distributing 400 tickets for closed circuit TV viewing in McCrary Theatre.
