Piatt named Vice President for University Advancement

James B. Piatt Jr. has been named vice president for university advancement at Elon University. Piatt currently serves as vice president for college advancement at Mount Union College, Alliance, Ohio. He will succeed Nan P. Perkins, who retires this year after a 32-year career at Elon.

Duke Energy leader says N.C. electricity rates could rise due to higher carbon taxes

A top North Carolina energy executive says electric rates in the state could increase as much as 35 to 50 percent if Congress passes carbon legislation that is beginning to be developed in Washington. Ellen Ruff, president of Duke Energy Carolinas, spoke at Elon Sept. 9 as part of the university’s Voices of Discovery series.

Toddie Peters’ new book to be used by study guide at 18 area churches

A new book co-edited by Rebecca "Toddie" Peters was the subject of a story in the Sept. 6 edition of the Greensboro News & Record. The book, "To Do Justice: A Guide for Progressive Churches," will be used by 18 local churches as a guide for a 13-week study on social justice issues.

Durr named sustainability coordinator

Elaine R. Durr, a sustainability consultant from Decatur, Ga., has been named sustainability coordinator at Elon University, a new position created as part of Elon’s sustainability master plan.
