Elon Phoenix baseball team captures share of SoCon Title

The Elon Phoenix secured a share of its fourth Southern Conference regular-season title, and third in four years, by rallying for four runs in the bottom of the eight for an 8-7 win over the visiting Furman Paladins on May 19. The win was the 11th for Elon in its final at bat this season.

Six Elon athletics teams earn top academic honors

Six Elon athletics teams rank among the nation’s top 10 percent in their sports in the annual NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) report. The Elon Phoenix men’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s golf, women’s indoor and outdoor track and volleyball teams are among the NCAA Division I teams receiving public recognition awards for their APR scores, the NCAA announced May 17.

Mary Gowan to step down as dean of the Love School of Business

Mary Gowan, who has been dean of Elon University’s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business since 2007, will step down as dean at the conclusion of the 2010-11 academic year. She will remain as a faculty member in the Love School of Business, teaching courses as a professor of management.

Winter 2011: Construction Zone Ahead: New facilities support goals of the Elon Commitment

In the new issue of the Magazine of Elon, President Leo M. Lambert outlines plans for eight major construction projects as part of the Elon Commitment strategic plan. More than 1,284 new residence hall spaces will be built over the next three years as part of a transformation of the residential experience. Other projects include a new retail building, including the campus bookstore, on Williamson Avenue; the Gerald L. Francis building on Haggard Avenue for graduate programs in physical therapy and physician assistant studies; a new multi-faith center in the Academic Village; and new facilities for Phoenix athletics.

Frank Haith '88 highlights Black Excellence Awards banquet

More that 100 students were honored April 30 in Alumni Gym during the 18th annual Phillips-Perry Black Excellence Awards Banquet. Frank Haith ’88, head men’s basketball coach at the University of Missouri, was keynote speaker for the event.
