Elon’s Winter Holiday Festival of Light set for Thursday, Dec. 2

Be sure to attend one of Elon's favorite annual traditions at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, on Scott Plaza surrounding Fonville Fountain. The celebration will include hot chocolate and cider, carol singing, a brass quintet, a Menorah lighting, the illumination of the area from Alamance Building to Moseley Center, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
Chris Thomas named SoCon men’s soccer Player of the Year

Elon sophomore Chris Thomas was named the 2010 Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year and six Phoenix players earned all-conference honors.
Elon computing sciences student writes code for new iPhone app

Elon University senior Tyler Anderson wrote major portions of the code for a new iPhone/iPod Touch application released by the Iconfactory, a graphic design and software firm based in Greensboro, N.C. The application was approved by Apple for distribution on its iTunes App Store on Oct. 13, following a rigorous quality review for compliance on Apple's mobile devices.

Elon students use Skype to connect with their peers in Iraq

Elon sociology and global studies students used Skype technology on Oct. 20 to hold a 90-minute conversation with students at Dijlah University College in Baghdad, Iraq. The session was the brainchild of Elon sociology professor Tom Arcaro and Ahmed Fadaam, a sculptor/journalist from Baghdad who has visited Elon in the past.
Kiplinger’s names Elon a 2010-11 “Best Value”

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine has ranked Elon among the nation’s top 50 best values in private higher education and the #9 university in lowest total costs, a distinction published in the magazine’s December edition. The 2010-11 ranking is the fifth consecutive top-50 placement of Elon by Kiplinger’s.
Trustees launch largest fundraising campaign in Elon University history

Elon University has launched the public phase of the largest fundraising campaign in the school’s history. The Board of Trustees voted Oct. 10 to set a goal of raising $100 million by 2011 through Ever Elon: The Campaign for the Future of Our University.
