Imagining the Internet study: moving from the desktop to “the cloud”

A new survey conducted by Elon's Imagining the Internet Center and the Pew Internet Project finds that technology experts predict people who use the Internet will "live mostly in the cloud" by 2020, working primarily through applications based on remote servers and accessed through networked devices.

Phoenix baseball team selected for NCAA Division I Championship Field

Elon's baseball team is among three Southern Conference teams named to the field of 64 for the 2010 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. The Phoenix (38-22) will play its first round game against Alabama (37-22) in the Atlanta regional at 3 p.m., Friday, June 4. The other teams in the double elimination Atlanta regional are Mercer University (37-22) and Georgia Tech (45-13).

Elon University graduates first Interactive Media master's class

Thirty-six students began their journey as the first class in Elon University's Interactive Media master's program in July 2009. Just 10 months later, on May 20, those same three dozen students celebrated their commencement by crossing Whitley Auditorium's stage and receiving their graduate diplomas from Elon President Leo M. Lambert.

Lebanon, Trollinger avenues reopen

Two major Elon roads, Lebanon and Trollinger avenues, reopened May 20 after more than nine months of construction on a new pedestrian tunnel between Elon's main campus and areas south of the railroad tracks. Lebanon and Trollinger run parallel to the tracks and were closed to traffic last August.

Elon students, faculty document thoughts of world Web leaders at FutureWeb2010

World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee and Vint Cerf, widely known as a "father of the Internet" and Google's Chief Internet Evangelist, were among the more than 60 speakers leading more than 20 different events at the three-day FutureWeb conference in Raleigh, N.C., April 28-30. The event was organized by the Imagining the Internet Center of Elon's School of Communications, and involved more than 40 Elon students, faculty and staff.

Barry Bradberry receives admissions award

Barry Bradberry, associate dean of admissions and financial planning, received the William Starling Award from SACAC, the Southern Association for College Admissions Counseling, at the group's April 19 meeting in Jacksonville, Fla. Five Elon staff members represented the university at the conference.

Robertson gift to fund Alumni Gym renovation

A major gift by Elon trustee Jeanne Robertson and her husband Jerry will provide lead funding for a renovation project for Alumni Gym in Koury Center. The project will upgrade Elon's home for basketball and volleyball, convocations and other large campus events.
