N.C. journalist honored for her commitment to openness in government

The managing editor of the Outer Banks Sentinel was honored at the beginning of Sunshine Day on March 16 as the Open Government Heroine for 2010 because of her work exposing corruption in government. She was recognized early during Sunshine Day on March 16 at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum in Greensboro, N.C.
Elon Poll finds citizen awareness of open government laws grows by 11 percent

The North Carolina Open Government Coalition is encouraged by the growth in awareness of open government laws in the state. In data released today, the latest Elon University Poll found 46 percent of residents were aware of the laws that guarantee citizen access to public meetings and records, which is up from 35 percent last year.
