The Elon chapter of Beta Alpha Psi is hosting a Meet and Greet on September 14 from 6 to 8 p.m in McKinnon Hall, Moseley Center.

The annual networking event is an opportunity for accounting and finance students and accounting firms to interact in a professional and social setting. The Meet and Greet is organized by members of Beta Alpha Psi, the international honorary organization for financial professionals. Representatives from 26 firms, including Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, Deloitte Touche, Ernst & Young, IBM Corporation, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, will be on hand to talk to students. Members of the Elon chapter of Beta Alpha Psi attended the organization’s annual meeting, held August 6-8th in Brooklyn, NY. Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) is the national accounting and finance honorary.

Tameika Sizoo and chapter president Todd Cash, both seniors, participated in BAP’s Project Run With It, a competition in which students from chapters across the country team up to develop solutions for real-life business problems of actual not-for-profit agencies. Todd Cash was on a winning team and won $1000 for the Elon chapter. Seniors Jennifer Bornhofen and Michele Robbins and faculty advisor Dr. Patty Cox also attended the annual meeting.

Christina Benson, business law professor in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, presented a paper at the Academy of Legal Studies in Business (ALSB) conference, held Aug. 4-8 in Denver. Benson’s paper, “US Automotive Industry Bailout Programs: Avoiding WTO Potholes on the Road to Economic Recovery,” is part of a larger project in which she is looking at how US stimulus and bailout programs include provisions that may violate the country’s commitments under World Trade Organization agreements, and whether or not aid to ailing US industries is likely to succeed in making them more globally competitive. Benson’s paper will be published in the 2009 ALSB proceedings.

The Love School of Business and Elon Career Services are co-hosting a recruiting event for employers on Friday, August 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Koury Business Center. Representatives from regional firms will tour the campus and the Koury Business Center, meet faculty and staff, and learn more about the benefits of forming recruiting partnerships with Elon University and the Love School of Business. Twenty Elon students are living and working in the Big Apple this month as part of the inaugural Summer in the City: Elon in New York program sponsored by the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. Students are interning at major firms and nonprofits in the fields of finance, marketing, communications and entrepreneurship while residing in the Upper East Side of Manhattan and completing a professional development course.
