Elon University Jazz Ensemble completes European tour

The Elon University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of associate professor Jon Metzger, completed this month a performance tour of The Netherlands, Germany and Denmark. The 18-piece jazz ensemble played at international festivals and schools, gave jazz improvisation workshops, and showed their versatility by also performing two classical music chamber concerts.

The grassy area in front of Mooney doubled as a hospital ward, battleground and infirmary Tuesday morning as several academically gifted students enrolled in Elon’s inaugural Formative Learning Experience program – “FLEX” for short – learned about first aid and took turns dramatizing emergency situations.
Middle school students visit Elon for leadership program

Hand dryers in local middle school bathrooms would be better for the environment than paper towels. Additional electives would keep students from getting bored in class. New textbooks and laptops would be nice, too. Local seventh graders shared ideas Wednesday to strengthen their school communities as part of an annual youth leadership program at Elon University.

For Raymond Beck ’75, the online auction site eBay is occasionally a treasure trove of Elon artifacts, and one of the latest finds for the retired North Carolina State Capitol historian and site manager was a gold medal from the “Clio” literary society engraved with the name of the man who received it as a graduate of Elon College's Class of 1893.
