Elon University leaders will dedicate Martha S. and Carl H. Lindner III Hall on Friday in an afternoon ceremony that welcomes back to campus the donors whose gift helped make the building possible. Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend the 4 p.m. dedication on the north patio facing the Academic Village.

Special Olympics holds spring games on Elon campus

Elon University hosted Special Olympics Alamance County on Friday as athletes from surrounding communities visited campus for the nonprofit’s annual spring games. Several university students volunteered for the program, which included appearances by Elon Phoenix football players, cheerleaders and the Phoenix mascot.

“Diversity” has become a buzzword on college campuses that misses a larger point, said activist and BET personality Jeff Johnson, who visited campus Saturday for Elon University’s inaugural Diversity Leadership Conference. More should be done to foster greater community, he said, and responsibility for that rests with student leaders.

The nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic honor society installed its newest chapter Tuesday during Elon University’s Convocation for Honors, where faculty and staff members of Phi Beta Kappa were charged with upholding the society’s values by committing themselves to intellectual freedom, the pursuit of knowledge and the ideal of excellence in scholarship in the liberal arts and sciences.
