Breanna Carrie Detwiler has been named a recipient of a 2008 Truman Scholarship, making her the first student in Elon University history to receive the prestigious national fellowship.

What does it take to make it in show business? A new internship program at Elon brings students to Los Angeles for a summer course that includes meetings with industry executives, lessons on marketing ideas – and a presentation to Hollywood executives of their own group proposal for a TV or movie production.

The former spokeswoman for the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, fired after an investigative newspaper series on the privatization of mental health services in the state, called this week for officials to comply with the law by keeping archives of all emails sent in the course of their work. Her remarks at Elon University came during the annual "Sunshine Week," which promotes open access to government records.

An Elon senior is once again asking for donations of the shampoo and soap samples that people typically take from hotel rooms but never use – all in the name of charity. Where her last efforts took place in local middle schools, starting the week after Spring Break, Samantha Tremblay is focusing her energy on campus.

Results for Week #6 of the RecycleMania national recycling contest are in. The Elon community continues to show  awareness and effort in the spring campaign.  Current results reflect one of the strongest collection weeks to date.
