The award, presented by the Gibsonville Police Department, recognized Gerner for his efforts to locate a missing person this spring.

The student-led programs are free, non-credit courses that allow students to explore new and exciting subjects outside of the classroom.

The race, now in its seventh year at Elon, was held virtually from Sept. 18 through Oct. 10.

The new Elon University scholarship is awarded to academically and musically strong students who have a passion for instrumental music.
