Vic Zodda ’45 honored for service to baseball in southern Virginia

The Peninsula Pilots, of the Coastal Plains collegiate summer baseball league, honored Vic Zodda '45 at a game on June 28. Zodda served as general manager of the "Baby Dodgers," a Class A affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers that played in nearby Newport News, Va., in the 1940s and '50s.
Jack McKeon ’63 returns to Florida Marlins as interim manager

Jack McKeon '63, who skippered the Florida Marlins to the 2003 World Series title, will return as the club's interim manager. McKeon replaces Edwin Rodriguez, who resigned as Marlins manager June 19 after the team limped to a 1-17 record for the month.
Kyle Johnson ’10 honors father on yearlong mission trip

It was in the middle of the mountains of Haiti where no English was spoken that the hymn “How Great Thou Art” took on a new meaning for Kyle Johnson ’10. “How Great Thou Art” was the only song Johnson’s father, Richard, had requested be played at his funeral six months before. Inspired by his father’s brave last days – which included creating a “bucket list” of things to do and places to see before he died – the younger Johnson embarked upon a yearlong mission program called The World Race mere days after graduating from Elon.
Peter Lindstrom ’94 awarded major grant from U.S. Department of Energy

Peter Lindstrom ’94 received a $2.5 million Early Career Research Program grant from the U.S. Department of Energy for research he is conducting at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Calif. Lindstrom is a computer scientist in the lab's Center for Applied Scientific Computing.
Todd Lee selected for Daniels-Danieley Award

Family of 1911 alumna returns to campus for Commencement

Mary Bryan "Billie" Holt has had May 21, 2011, circled on her calendar for quite some time, but not because she has a child, a grandchild or even a great-grandchild graduating from Elon. Rather, Holt will attend Saturday's Commencement Exercises to honor her mother, Affie Camelia Griffin, who graduated from Elon College a century ago and delivered a commencement address to fellow members of the Class of 1911.
