Richard Parker ’80 named Burlington, N.C., Citizen of the Year

The Burlington Kiwanis Club named Richard Parker '80, owner and manager of B.C. Parker Real Estate, its 2010 Citizen of the Year. Parker received the award - the 60th the club has bestowed - at a banquet on Dec. 2.

Steve Schuckenbrock '82, president of Dell Global Large Enterprise, shared wisdom gleaned from his nearly 30 years in the information technology (IT) field with students, faculty and staff in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business on Nov. 12. Schuckenbrock, one of Elon's most accomplished business alumni, also received the 2010 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award from President Leo M. Lambert.
Katherine Poole ’72 shares story of Tom Bass ’67 in guest column

Katherine Poole '72 shared the story of one of her Elon classmates, Tom Bass '67, in a Veterans' Day guest column for the (Burlington, N.C.) Times-News in November. The column touched on Bass' service during the Vietnam War, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Air Medal, and offered his advice for today's soldiers and veterans.

The Elon Alumni Association needs your help identifying outstanding young alumni to join our Young Alumni Council. Created in 2007 to address the unique needs of Elon’s most recent graduates, the Young Alumni Council serves as an advisory board to the Alumni Association and is involved in creating and implementing a variety of programs to strengthen the connection between young alumni and the university.

Elon alumni featured in CUR/NCUR gala at Library of Congress

On Oct. 27, the Council on Undergraduate Research and the National Conferences on Undergraduate Research celebrated the merging of their organizations with a gala at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The event included a slide show highlighting undergraduate research students from various institutions across the country. Because of Elon's commitment to undergraduate research and the recognition its students have received over the years, CUR and NCUR asked to include several Elon alumni in the presentation.
