Elon Law students earn team and individual honors in national moot court competitions

On January 24, members of the Moot Court Board at Elon Law built on a series of achievements in recent months, with Beth Klein and Chris McLain finishing in the top eight teams at the 35th annual J. Braxton Craven, Jr. Memorial Competition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The competition drew 24 teams from law schools across the country.

Diversity Day welcomes high school and college students to Elon Law

Elon Law's fifth annual Diversity Day welcomed minority high school and college students, among others, to a day of information about legal education and opportunities for careers in law. Students and their families attended the February 11 event, featuring The Honorable James Randolph Spencer, the first African-American Judge of the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Virginia.

Tax counseling for the elderly – Feb. 2 – April 12

Elon Law students, led by members of the Tax Law Interest Group, will begin filing incomes taxes for local persons who are low-income or over 60, free of charge, during the first week in February through April 12, 2012.

Elon Law Professor Scott Gaylord defends North Carolina's system of judicial elections in the article "Judicial Independence Revisited: Judicial Elections and Missouri Plan Challenges," published in the North Carolina Law Review's online supplement, Addendum. In addition, he published an op-ed on the subject in the Feb. 1, 2012 edition of the News & Observer.
