Elon University is gaining momentum in a nationwide recycling contest involving hundreds of colleges and universities. Elon is currently ranked No. 85 out of 171 entries for overall weight volume in RecycleMania 2008, which is now entering its fourth week of competition.

The POWER Less Energy Competition and RecycleMania 2008 were both featured at College Coffee on Feb. 19 as Elon University continued to educate the community about its environmental sustainability efforts.

Elon University continues to show improvements in recycling over last year's levels as RecycleMania 2008,  a 10-week nationwide contest involving hundreds of colleges and universities, enters its third week.

The results are in for Elon during the first week of RecyleMania 2008, a 10-week competition taking part on campuses across the nation to reduce waste and raise awareness about recycling. Material recycled from the university increased by more than a ton over the first week of the competition last year.

A seven-week contest to see which residence hall can best reduce its electricity use begins Feb. 19 at College Coffee. The first ever POWER Less Energy Competition is designed to improve energy habits while making a positive impact on the planet.

Elon University is taking additional steps to reduce water use in response to the recent drought conditions, and students living both on and off campus are being asked to change some of their daily behaviors to limit water use. Details…
