Elon community donates textbooks for Ghana school

More than 3,000 books were collected this fall in a textbook drive organized by history professor Brian Digre. Digre delivered the books, packed into 120 boxes bound for the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, on Dec. 19 to a U.S. Naval base for transport to the African nation.

Students help viewers following state DTV tests

North Carolina television viewers flooded the School of Communications with phone calls Thursday as Elon students manned a call center to answer questions about a nationwide conversion to digital television. Regional stations alerted viewers to the DTV change on Feb. 17, 2009, with two “soft tests” that interrupted regular programming for people who rely on antennas to get reception.

Students break the ice of Lake Mary Nell in Polar Bear Plunge

Just one day after the first significant snowfall of the year, dozens of students on Jan. 21 braved the ice and frigid waters of Lake Mary Nell for the 2009 Polar Bear Plunge. The sixth annual event, which featured gift card prizes to local retail merchants and restaurants, doubled as a fundraiser for the World Wildlife Fund.

Study Abroad blog follows student experiences

Stay up-to-date with more than 680 students taking part in Study Abroad experiences during Winter Term 2009 in a blog hosted by the Isabella Cannon Centre for International Studies. A record number of programs are being offered in places such as Peru, Ghana and India.

RecycleMania 2009 contest starts Jan. 18

RecycleMania returns to Elon this month for the university’s third year taking part in a national recycling competition involving hundreds of college and universities. Leaders hope to surpass the nearly 54 tons of recyclable materials collected last spring on campus during the contest.

DPT program enrolls class of 2011
