Application deadlines for the Winter Term courses New York and D.C.: Wealth and Poverty as well as Arizona: On the Line in the Immigration Debate have been extended through October 11.

In Elon University’s 2013 Baird Pulitzer Prize Lecture, author Taylor Branch reminds his audience that despite progress born from the civil rights movement, the American system of government and its democratic principles remain fragile.

Elon Hillel asked students on Tuesday to take a stand when they hear or see others make intolerant or hateful comments that disregard the cherished values of Elon University’s inclusive community.  

The award includes a film set and $1,200 programming stipend to be used to provide scholarly presentations and exhibit four documentaries with new footage illustrating the history of civil rights in America.

Gilman Scholar Jordan Joshua will present the documentary "The Door of No Return" and a discussion on the importance of study abroad for minority students on Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. in Oaks Commons 207.

Taylor Branch's talk, “Myth & Miracles from the King Years,” takes place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in McCrary Theatre.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, Junot Díaz shared with an Elon University audience on Tuesday his approach to writing, his concerns about the way minorities are marginalized in the United States - and how he thinks American youth can change the world.

Elon students, faculty and staff marked the 50th anniversary of MLK's famous speech by coming together in McKinnon Hall to hear its rebroadcast and reflections from today's political and spiritual leaders.

McKinnon Hall will be open from 11:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Wednesday for members of the campus community who wish to watch events leading up to and following President Barack Obama's address as part of the "Let Freedom Ring" commemoration.
