Award-winning actor BD Wong delivered the 2022 Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Address on Tuesday, Jan. 11, as part of Elon’s annual events held to honor the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King.

Elon will host events for the National Day of Racial Healing, which was started in 2017 by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The award-winning actor will deliver the address titled "Change, Hope and Equality for Asian Americans," at 6 p.m. in Alumni Gym.

Service, social and healing opportunities along with other special programs at Elon during January will commemorate the life and legacy of the late civil rights leader.

Among those visiting Elon this year are actor BD Wong, civic engagement advocate Eric Liu, astronaut Leland Melvin and researcher Belle Liang.

The conference seeks to promote the work of women, to combat identity-based exploitation and marginalization and to educate and empower future audio professionals to create an environment of inclusion and diversity.

Ferris, the Joel R. Williamson Eminent Professor of History Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the former chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities, will present on his book and exhibit, “I AM A MAN: Photographs of the Civil Rights Movement, 1960-1970.”

This theme of year’s Elon University Speaker Series, presented by WUNC North Carolina Public Radio, is the “Power of Relationships."

The department's fall play is by Noé Morales Muñoz and translated by Maria Alexandria Beech, with Andres Munar serving as guest director.
