Human values have eroded as technology alters the way people live, according to an accomplished scholar from the University of Miami. John Paul Russo visits campus April 14 to discuss that premise in an evening lecture titled “The Future Without a Past: The Humanities in a Technological Age.”

Anthony Weston, Elon's distinguished scholar for 2007-2008, invites the campus community to McKinnon Hall in the Moseley Center this evening for a presentation on environmentalism and how it must remain a hopeful cause for people who fear for the Earth.

William Ruddiman, an expert on climate change, visits Elon University on March 17 as part of the Voices of Discovery science speaker series to talk about man's impact on the environment not just in recent years, but throughout history as humans tended livestock and engaged in deforestation for agricultural purposes.

An award-winning journalist for NPR and CNN will talk about Africa, from where she now reports, during a presentation Feb. 26 that is free and open to the public. Charlayne Hunter-Gault will also take part in a question-and-answer session in Whitley Auditorium earlier in the day.
