Ken Ferrer allowed just three runs over a career-best 7.2 innings pitched and Mike Melillo hit a two-run home run to lead the 29th-ranked and third-seeded Elon Phoenix to a 6-3 victory over the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers in an elimination game of the Cary Regional of the 2008 NCAA Baseball Tournament.

The Elon Phoenix defeated the College of Charleston Cougars 17-8 on May 25 to claim the 2008 SoCon tournament title.  Elon improved to 43-16 and claims the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I baseball tournament. 

Elon University Athletics today announced that it will hold a viewing party of the 2008 NCAA Baseball Selection Show at The Cutting Board located at 2699 Ramada Road in Burlington on Monday, May 26.

The Elon Phoenix will enter the upcoming 2008 Southern Conference Baseball Championship as the number one seed after winning the regular season title outright with a 19-8 SoCon mark. The Phoenix finished one game ahead of College of Charleston (18-9) whose loss on the last day of the regular season gave Elon the title outright. It is the second SoCon title for Elon in three seasons.

Elon's Faculty Athletics Representative Vicki Hightower has been honored by the Southern Conference as one of 11 recipients of the league's 2008 Distinguished Service Award.
