The cinema and television arts major recently won a film contest celebrating the stories of African Americans and the positive impact they have made in Guilford County communities.

Members of the yearlong documentary film production program received behind-the-scenes access to Durham’s Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, considered one of the world’s premiere showcases for nonfiction cinema.

Movies shown during the festival reflected on the collective and individual capacity for empowerment to survive challenging socio-economic conditions, live in territories affected by environmental crises, and experience persecution and criminalization of struggles for justice in Latin America.

The festival presented the film “The Illusion of Abundance: Risking Their Life to Protect Our Planet” by Erika Gonzales Remirez and Matthieu Lietaert in Turner Theater.

Brandon Talton ’23, a cinema and television arts BFA major, produced the 12-minute documentary as part of his Advanced Documentary and Nonfiction Production class.
