The Elon University graduate was presented with the Emma Bowen Foundation’s Outstanding Student of the Year Award, and will appear in the upcoming “Family of Us: A PBS American Portrait Story” series.

Beginning on Monday, May 11, the school will host five nights of programming, premiering student work and celebrating academic achievements at 7 p.m. on ElonComm apps for AppleTV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Android TV. The programs will also be available on the school’s Facebook and Vimeo platforms.

Serrano will lead a workshop about immigration law and participate in a screening and question-and-answer session about the documentary "Forbidden: Undocumented and Queer in Rural America."

The Elon alumna will receive the award on Thursday, Nov. 7, and screen her feature-length documentary, “The Limits of My World.”

On Tuesday, April 30, elondocs will screen 13 audio, video and photo documentaries produced by students in the program. The showcase begins at 6 p.m. in Turner Theatre.

Produced by Jared Mayerson ’20 and Jordan Shaw ’20, “Leaving the Nest” was recognized at the second annual Marquee on Main Film Festival held in Washington, North Carolina. The seven-minute documentary tells the story of a family that lives in yurts – portable, round tents.

The Elon graduate served as an editor and screenwriter for “The Great Hack,” a documentary that delves into the dark world of data exploitation through the personal journeys of those affected by the Cambridge Analytica/Facebook data breach.

The associate professor of communications was one of 25 educators from colleges and universities nationwide to participate in the prestigious five-day program, which offers in-depth conversations with entertainment professionals and an inside look at the television and content development industries.

Produced by Jared Mayerson ’20 and Jordan Shaw ’20, “Leaving the Nest” tells the story of a North Carolina family that lives in yurts – portable, round tents. The film will be screened this spring on campus at the 2019 elondocs documentary showcase.

The Elon alumnus and documentary filmmaker was honored on Oct. 18 during the screenings of two documentaries he helped create.
