Environmental studies professor’s passion for green design extends Elon’s reach in the community, ignites creativity in students’ work

The $4,000 Community Partnership Initiative Grant not only helped students at Eastlawn Elementary School in Burlington, North Carolina, expand their school's garden, but it also helped teach valuable lessons.

Angyal, professor emeritus of English and environmental studies, is the co-author of "Thomas Berry: A Biography," published in June by Columbia University Press.

The interdisciplinary panel brought together experts from the fields of art, political science, law, environmental studies and food justice.

Timon McPhearson's lecture, "Urban Futures: Transforming Cities for Resilience and Sustainability," was presented by Elon College, the College of Arts & Sciences as part of the annual Voices of Discovery series.

The annual festival by the Elon University Garden Studio Class will be held Friday, Oct. 25, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Elon Community Garden.

The demonstration, which served as the opening of Campus Sustainability Week at Elon, showed how much of the campus' landfill waste could actually be recycled or composted.

Chunco, associate professor of environmental studies, will spend the next two years as the Japheth E. Rawls professor for Undergraduate Research in Science.

President Connie Ledoux Book presented the medallion to a retired faculty member, a retired staff member and a long-time Cone Health executive and supporter of the School of Health Sciences. Faculty members selected for named professorships were also honored as the faculty/staff Planning Week got underway.
