Exercise Science

Maureen Vandermaas-Peeler, Eric Hall, Amy Allocco and Jen Hamel, members of a collaborative research group facilitated by the Center for Research on Global Engagement (CRGE), recently published an open-access article in the journal New Directions in Teaching and Learning.

Ten individuals nominated by their colleagues were recipients of five annual awards recognizing contributions to teaching, mentoring, scholarship and service.

Mark Dobson '24 and Olivia Halperin '26 are CAA Health Science Research Scholars, a program aimed at increasing high-quality undergraduate research and mentoring. They and Elon faculty attended a summer workshop to strengthen virtual mentoring experiences.

Faculty members and students from Department of Performing Arts, Department of Exercise Science and Department of Physical Therapy Education led an interactive, hands-on STEAM-based session for students from Elon Academy at the Francis Center.

Elon's Doctor of Physical Therapy program was represented strongly at the Annual Meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine in Denver, CO. Alicia Wilson and James Gerosa, second-year DPT students, also won awards at the conference.

Moore, “Cultivating Capstones: Designing High-Quality Culminating Experiences for Student Learning” delves into capstone experiences, identifying characteristics that contribute to worthwhile learning opportunities and how institutions might best serve students.

Chris Leupold, professor of psychology, will succeed Hall in the role on June 1.

Urquhart's research examines mobile phones' effect on procrastination and mental health as well as the best ways to minimize distractions and determine the relationship between mobile phone usage and academic performance and self-efficacy.

The university's top undergraduate research award comes with $20,000 to support and celebrate academic and creative achievements.

National Biomechanics Day is an annual celebration of biomechanics. The collaborative event at Elon is facilitated by faculty in the Exercise Science, Performing Arts and Physical Therapy Education departments.
