Professor’s service trip to Haiti spurs ideas for Elon

Prudence Layne traveled to a remote region in Haiti during spring break to assist doctors and nurses at a free medical clinic. While there, the assistant professor of English saw not only the damage from a powerful January earthquake, but what she says are opportunities for Elon University to help in the nation’s reconstruction.
Footsteps 4 Haiti fundraising event set for Saturday

Support recovery efforts in Haiti on Saturday, May 1, with the "Footsteps for Haiti" fundraiser at Belk Track. The four-hour event sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta and Alpha Omicron Pi begins at 8 a.m. and features games, food, live music and speakers who have visited the Caribbean nation still rebuilding from a January earthquake that killed a quarter million people.

Elon Trustee Jeanne Robertson to headline Haiti fundraiser – TONIGHT

Jeanne Robertson, a nationally acclaimed humorist and a member of the board of trustees at Elon University, is partnering with the Times-News in Burlington for a Feb. 23 evening fundraiser to benefit relief efforts in Haiti. Tickets for the event at Williams High School are now on sale for $20. All proceeds will be given to the American Red Cross and New Directions International.
Periclean Scholars raise money for relief efforts in “Dance for Haiti” event

The Periclean Scholars Class of 2012, led by sophomores Katie Kenney and Aisha Mitchell, raised more than $1,000 this month during a dance fundraiser to benefit the Children’s Nutrition Program of Haiti.

Elon University senior John McGreevy flew to Haiti over Winter Term as part of a research project. Within days he found himself helping the wounded, the widowed and the children made orphans following the impoverished nation’s largest natural disaster in generations. The environmental studies and biology double major from the Philadelphia region recently spoke with E-net about his experience.
Men’s golf organizes “Eagles for Haiti” fundraiser

A fundraising effort by the Elon University men’s golf team and spearheaded by an MBA student debuts next month with “Eagles for Haiti,” a pledge drive that asks sponsors to donate money toward recovery efforts in the battered Caribbean nation for every eagle scored this season by male golfers in the Southern Conference.
