The forum continued a yearlong series of events and activities at Elon Law that have probed national concerns about police misconduct against minorities and the uneven application of law based on race.

Speakers at Elon Law’s seventh annual Martin Luther King Jr. forum encouraged lawyers and law students to stand tall in their actions to address civil and political rights both in law school and in their legal careers.

The American Bar Association Center for Racial and Ethnic Diversity and the ABA Young Lawyers Division announced on May 17 that Elon Law’s student-led Diversity Week won first place in the annual Next Steps Diversity Challenge.

Elon Law's fifth annual Diversity Day welcomed minority high school and college students, among others, to a day of information about legal education and opportunities for careers in law. Students and their families attended the February 11 event, featuring The Honorable James Randolph Spencer, the first African-American Judge of the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Virginia.

Members of the Elon Law chapter of the Black Law Students Association (BLSA) presented a mock trial before a group of the region's elementary school children on November 21 to teach them about trial advocacy and the range of career and service opportunities created by excelling in school.
