The former dean of Elon University School of Law concluded his leadership role on December 31 and will return to the faculty after a yearlong sabbatical.

Before her December graduation, Mara Weisman L’21 published an article in the official journal of the American Immigration Lawyers Association to explain a law that puts nearly 50,000 people at risk of deportation despite their childhood adoptions by families in the United States.

Amid the celebration of its 15th anniversary year, Elon University School of Law received notification from its accrediting agency on December 17, 2021, that it remains in full compliance with an innovative curriculum that emphasizes learning by doing.

The scholarship in memory of Dean Emeritus & Professor of Law George R. Johnson, Jr., will be awarded to students who have a commitment to promoting the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Elon Law and within the legal profession.

Mike Davis saw many ways to help his classmates thrive during their legal studies. His passion for bettering the community earned him Elon University School of Law’s top student honor at Commencement for embodying the highest levels of selfless leadership and service.

Students praised Elon Law in the 2022 edition of a popular law school guide with their emphasis on care shown by faculty and staff, the law school’s many experiential learning opportunities, and its commitment to inclusive excellence.

Elon University’s School of Law and School of Health Sciences celebrated the pride and heritage of students who recognize their African roots in a Commencement eve program filled with laughs, cheers, and many boxes of tissues for the tears of joy of both graduates and their guests.

In her Commencement address to the Class of 2021, attorney Deborah Enix-Ross of the American Bar Association emphasized how "our justice system does not function properly when vulnerable people who are poor are forced to appear in court without a lawyer."

Graduates were recognized in a virtual program with school and professional honors for advocacy, academic excellence, and excellence in service.

The longtime legal educator and a founding administrator and faculty member of the downtown Greensboro law school will serve from January 1 through May 31, 2022, as Elon University conducts a national search for its fourth dean.
