Admissions Open House at Elon Law – Oct. 29

Elon University School of Law will host an Admissions Open House on Friday, October 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. This event will give prospective students the opportunity to meet Elon law students, faculty, and staff; attend a mock law class; learn more about the unique characteristics of an Elon Law education; tour the facilities; and obtain information about our admissions process and financial aid.
Betty Morgan and Eric Fink present workshop on legal issues in internships

Betty Morgan, an associate professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration and director of the Elon Center for Public Affairs, and Eric Fink, Jennings Professor of Law and Emerging Scholar at the Elon University School of Law, presented a pre-conference workshop on Legal Issues in Internships and Experiential Learning for the National Society of Experiential Education in early October.
Scott Turow to deliver Bryan Leadership Lecture – Oct. 13

Acclaimed writer and attorney Scott Turow will deliver the Elon University School of Law fall 2010 Joseph M. Bryan Distinguished Leadership Lecture on Wednesday evening, Oct. 13. Turow's books have been translated into more than 25 languages, sold more than 25 million copies world-wide and have been adapted into a feature-length film and two television miniseries.
Development plan for downtown Greensboro highlights contributions of Elon Law

A six-part economic development strategy for downtown Greensboro announced Sept. 28 calls for the continued development of the region as a "knowledge community," noting Elon Law's positive economic and civic impacts in the area since 2006.
Committee of N.C. Superior Court judges meets at Elon Law to draft Pattern Jury Instructions

The North Carolina Conference of Superior Court Judges Committee on Pattern Jury Instructions held their monthly meeting at Elon University School of Law on October 1-2. The pattern jury instructions are used regularly in civil and criminal cases in the state's trial courts. Judges read the instructions to juries to help them understand the law and their duties in deciding the case before them.

Elon Law hosts conference on academic support and effective counseling at law schools

Elon University School of Law hosted Bridging Troubled Waters: Counseling Fundamentals for Academic Support Professionals, June 21-22, sponsored by the Law School Admissions Council. It was the first counseling skills training course to be offered in the 17 years of annual meetings following the inaugural conference that marked the establishment of the academic support field within legal education nationally.
Alexis Martinez named assistant dean for student affairs at Elon Law, Lisa Watson joins as reference and government documents librarian

Alexis Martinez has been named assistant dean for student affairs at Elon University School of Law. She earned degrees in higher education administration and law from the University of Miami. Meanwhile, Lisa Watson joins the Elon Law library with degrees in law and library science from the University of Kentucky School of Law and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Elon partners with Google to provide student e-mail accounts

Students now have expanded e-mail capability as a result of Elon's partnership with Google. All student e-mail accounts have been converted to Google’s web-based e-mail service, Gmail. The conversion took place on June 1 and required no action from students. Returning students' e-mail addresses (student@elon.edu) and passwords remain the same. Inbox contents, including calendar appointments and contacts, were automatically transferred to the new Gmail accounts.
Elon Law student-mentors guide Class of 2013 during orientation week

More than 30 second- and third-year law students volunteered to be student-mentors to incoming law students in August. The student-mentors are part of the L.E.A.F.S. program, which stands for Leadership at Elon by Advising First-Year Students.
