Harold Ford Jr. to deliver Bryan Leadership Lecture – Nov. 5

Harold Ford Jr., chairman of the Democratic Leadership Council, news analyst for NBC and MSNBC, and a five-term member of Congress from 1997 to 2007, will deliver the Elon University School of Law fall 2009 Joseph M. Bryan Distinguished Leadership Lecture on Thursday evening in Greensboro.

Judicial selection takes center stage at Elon Law debate

At a public debate at Elon Law on October 29, North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice (Ret.) Jim Exum urged that North Carolina move to a system of appointing judges, arguing that elections wrongly influence judges to consider the political implications of their decisions, while Elon Law professor Scott Gaylord defended judicial elections, saying an appointive system could create undue influence by the executive and legislative branches on the judiciary.

2009 Intramural Moot Court champions announced

At the Second Annual Elon Law Intramural Moot Court Competition, held November 2-5, twenty law students earned an invitation to join the law school's Moot Court Board. Jason Burton and Parker Moore were the competition champions, winning a competitive final round.

Elon Law establishes Juvenile Justice Clinic

Elon University School of Law has established the Juvenile Justice Intervention and Mediation Clinic, allowing law students, under the supervision of law faculty and attorneys, to provide mediation services for victims and offenders in juvenile crime cases as an alternative to criminal prosecution.
