September 13–Beta Alpha Psi sponsoring Meet and Greet

The Elon chapter of Beta Alpha Psi is hosting a Meet and Greet on Monday, September 13 from 6 to 8 p.m in McKinnon Hall, Moseley Center. The Meet and Greet brings together accounting and finance students and accounting firms to network in a professional and social setting. The annual event is organized by members of Beta Alpha Psi, the international honorary organization for financial professionals. Representatives from firms including KPMG, RSM McGladrey, Credit Suisse and IBM will be on hand to talk to students about internship and job opportunities.

John Burbridge publishes article on the Brooklyn Dodgers and Jersey City

John Burbridge, a professor of operations and supply chain management, explores the role Jersey City, N.J., played in trying to keep the Dodgers in Brooklyn in “The Brooklyn Dodgers in Jersey City,” which appears in the Summer 2010 issue of The Baseball Research Journal published by the Society for American Baseball Research.

Gary Bailey and Barth Strempek release recording for Haitian earthquake relief

In the 1970s and early 1980s Gary Bailey, former Elon faculty member in human service studies and currently counselor in Health and Counseling Services, was a member of a popular regional R&B group called “Brief Encounter.” A couple of years ago Gary discovered that Brief Encounter has become one of the leading cult R&B groups among record collectors. He was shocked when he noticed that copies of their first album were selling for over $2,000 on eBay. The most recent sale was over $2500. Brief Encounter is back in business and about to release its first recording in nearly 30 years, all for the benefit of Haitian Earthquake Relief.

Bolden, Greeson and Weavil receive Elon Medallions

Former (Burlington, N.C.) Times-News executive editor Don Bolden, retired physical plant assistant director Stanley Greeson and retired professor Linda Thompson Weavil received Elon Medallions on Aug. 23, 2010, in an annual ceremony that celebrates the highest honor a person can receive from the university.
