Jennifer Platania, an associate professor of economics, talked with News 14 Carolina on Nov. 25 about a recession now gripping the American economy and President-elect Barack Obama's economic team.

American School & University magazine has recognized the design of the Colonnades Dining Hall in its 2008 Architectural Portfolio competition. The Colonnades, designed by Spillman Farmer Architects, was among 71 projects receiving outstanding design awards in the post-secondary division.

Inside Higher Ed, an online daily news source covering American colleges and universities, reported Dec. 2 on Elon University’s efforts in recent years to increase the total number and percentage of faculty in tenure or tenure-track positions.

The work of Elon student Mitch Pittman is included in a student-only media Web site operated by Fox News called Palestra.net.

Hunter Bacot, an associate professor of political science and director of the Elon University Poll, answered questions from News 14 Carolina on Nov. 14 regarding potential Cabinet selections by President-elect Barack Obama.

The Watauga Democrat newspaper carried a commentary by sports editor Steve Behr regarding the evolution of Elon athletics. The article comes as the Phoenix prepares for its Nov. 15 game against the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

Scott Gaylord, an associate professor of law, was quoted in the Nov. 10, 2008, edition of North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, which published an article that detailed a research report Gaylord co-authored this fall for the Federalist Society.

Compared with students at other colleges and universities across the nation, Elon University students are much more likely to study abroad, make class presentations, write papers, complete internships and work closely with faculty members on projects outside of class. Those are among the findings of the 2008 National Survey of Student Engagement, released Nov. 10.
