A new research study by Elon’s School of Health Sciences aims to determine how long COVID-19 antibodies last after vaccination.

The 38 new graduates in the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program's Class of 2021 participated in their Commencement ceremony in the Great Hall on Saturday, Feb. 27.

Alexis Moore, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, and Dr. Judy Esposito, associate professor of human service studies, presented research on the importance of teaching empathy and critical thinking skills to physician assistant (PA) students. Abstract co-authored with Dr. Cynthia Fair, professor of public health studies and human service studies.

Elon’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program and Physician Assistant Studies program welcomed new classes of students following a highly selective admissions process. The three-year, full-time DPT Program enrolled 48 students while the 24-month, full-time PA Program enrolled 38 students.

Associate Professor Melissa Murfin is involved in a project to create a biobank that will be used to determine if there are characteristics in the blood that make people more susceptible of being infected with COVID-19.

Murfin received the honorarium for her participation in virtual meetings, contributions to improving the curriculum, submission of data for federal grant reporting/research, and cooperation in delivering the PRAC-ED-PA SUD curriculum to her students. 

The Service Learning Faculty Scholars program for the first time will include two cohorts of faculty and staff members ready to further integrate the service-learning pedagogy into the Elon curriculum.

Lauren Johnson PA '21 has been selected for a highly competitive National Health Service Corps scholarship.

Physician Assistant Studies students practice using design thinkin techniques, at their annual workshop, to have better end of life conversations with patients.

Jessie Ehrisman PA '21 has been named one of three recipients of the Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology 2020 Student Scholarship, a $2,500 award for PA students with strong interest in pursuing careers in oncology.
