Karunatilaka will converse with Assistant Professor of English Dinidu Karunanayake in Turner Theatre on Monday, Oct. 7, at 5:30 p.m. The Sri Lankan author’s “The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida” won the 2022 Booker Prize.

Since fall 2023, Elon students have met regularly to practice conversational English with Ukrainian college students through programs coordinated by Associate Professor of English Jennifer Eidum and the Peace Corps Virtual Service Pilot Program. Eidum is seeking students to participate this fall.

Elon recently recognized students for completing the Peace Corps Prep program, a partnership with the U.S. Peace Corps agency that prepares students for international careers through mentoring, coursework and field experiences.

The Feb. 29 celebration in Turner Theatre will include a panel discussion with returned Peace Corps volunteers and a viewing of the “A Towering Task” documentary about the global service organization.

After devising a unique major and research project at Elon, Brett Brawerman ’12 transfers his skills to the Peace Corps and later, Feedonomics.

Members of the university community will have options to give back during the week of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Jennifer Eidum, associate professor of English, published the article "Peace Corps Networks: Activating Volunteers for a Lifetime," in the Georgetown Journal of International Affairs.

Elon recently recognized five students who completed the Peace Corps Prep program, which includes training and experience in a specific work sector, foreign language proficiency, intercultural competency, and professional leadership and development skills.

After being recognized in 2021 as a top ten Peace Corps Partner University, ten more Elon students received certificates for successfully completing the Peace Corps Prep program.
