Residential Campus Neighborhood Planning
July 25, 2017
Members of the university community working in support of living and learning at Elon - the Residential Campus Initiative - will meet to discuss strategic goals for the 2017-18 academic year. Neighborhood associations will have breakout sessions during the meeting to review neighborhood plans, meet the faculty and residential staff working in the neighborhood, and to share the common calendar for the fall semester.
Intended Audience: Residential neighborhood community directors and faculty directors, linked course faculty, living learning community (LLC) advisors, faculty affiliates, faculty-in-residence, and neighborhood association members.
The Center for Writing Excellence: Best Practices in Writing Instruction
July 25, 2017
After a brief overview of some best practices in writing instruction (with special focus on scaffolding and peer-response) participants will be invited to ask questions and get feedback on their writing assignments. The goal of this session is to provide concrete ideas, strategies, and feedback so that you can feel more confident that your writing assignments will maximize student learning and minimize your grading time. Whether you have a complete writing assignment drafted or are at the brainstorming stage, all are welcome to attend this session. Please bring any drafts you may have and also your laptop, as this will be a working session. We will also share the different ways that the Center for Writing Excellence (including the Writing Across the University program and the Writing Center) support not only faculty writing pedagogy, but faculty writing as well.

Periclean Scholars Interest Session

This meeting is for all faculty and staff interested in learning about the Periclean Scholars program in general and in particular about the role of the Class Mentor. There will be a short presentation about the history of the program with a special focus on how various faculty have uniquely embraced the personal and professional challenges involved in mentoring a class of Periclean Scholars. Questions and discussion will be encouraged.

New Faculty (full-time) Session with Human Resources
July 25, 2017
Representatives from the Office of Human Resources will begin benefits orientation for all new full-time faculty members. Benefit enrollment forms will be given and discussed at this time. New faculty members who have not submitted the required documents (social security card, driver’s license, deposit slip, voided check, etc.) or have not completed the new hire paperwork packet should bring the aforementioned documents to this meeting. Your passport will satisfy the I-9 form; however, the social security card is needed for payroll purposes.
Intended Audience: All new full-time faculty members.
NOTE: Previous Elon adjuncts who are now changing to full-time faculty status should also attend this session.
